Workout Accountability during COVID

In the blink of eye, all CrossFit Simsbury members went from reserving classes, attending classes with friends and coaches, and posting scores to our whiteboard. If they missed a class, either a friend, coach, or email would reach out and see why they missed. There was a high level of accountability. Its part of the reason CrossFit Simsbury members gets results.

Now, with the COVID outbreak and everyone sheltering at home, your workout life has suddenly shifted.

You are home all day. When should you workout? How will you do it? Where will you do it? What will you do? Will your family do it with you? What about the kids, shouldn't they be doing their homework, and if they are, won't they need help? What about work, if you are working from home, you should be working when able, right?

Somehow life got simpler sheltering at home, yet for some of us, working out just got more complex.

Here are a few tips:

  1. Have an accountability partner. Pick a friend, spouse, or even kid, that knows about your desire to maintain your fitness, and have them encourage, and even ask you, about your workout.

  2. Log your score. We have At-Home-WODs every day in the Wodify app. Log your score after you finish. Other members can like, comment, and encourage you through there. Also when members log scores, the system keeps track, and we can see who has not logged a score in a few days and then a Coach will reach out.

  3. Set an alarm on your phone. Being at home all day can cause you to get lost in the moment. Work from home. Laundry. Kids. Dog. Ordering food. Sanitizing. Eating. The list goes on, there's tons of distractions. But if you set your alarm for 5:30am and it says "WORKOUT", chances are high that's what you'll go do!

  4. Prioritize YOU! Before the pandemic, you likely spent 90 minutes prioritizing you every time you went to the gym. This includes the 1 hour class, and driving to and from. Now, stuck in your home, you may feel guilty going in the basement for 45 minutes when your family is upstairs. DON'T! Everybody needs "me" time, and as a leader of your household, its important to demonstrate that its important to take care of yourself. Maintaining your workout routine is critical to not only physical health, but mental health as well. If you want to involve your family in your workout, cool, just make sure your workout will satisfy you.

  5. Use your Coaches. Email us if you are having trouble staying on track. We can be your accountability partner, and we can give suggestions to help with your fitness. We are in this together, and we want to help each and every one of you stay successful through this thing!
