We’ve all heard the gimmicks or seen the ads; “Loose weight fast!” “Beach ready without leaving your couch!” The truth is, there is no fast or easy way to become the healthiest version of yourself. It takes time, proper nutrition and fitness. That being said, each and every day is an investment in your health. There are things you can do today, that will inch you closer to your goals, and have a profound effect on you long term. Will you see a dramatic difference in the mirror tomorrow? No. BUT, if you can make a habit out of things that support you, the results will come. Here are 3 things you can do today, that will help you to improve your nutrition.
It is, arguably, the most important meal of the day. Your body has been working to rest and recover all night long. Now, your up, and-just like you-your metabolism wants to get going to crush the day. Only, without fueling up, this can’t happen-and in fact, the opposite will if you don’t get some good nutrition into the system. If your mornings are rushed, keep it simple! Hard boiled eggs can be great on the go, overnight oats are something you can prepare ahead of time or plain Greek yogurt with berries and nuts is nice and quick. Carve out 5-7 minutes it takes to get your breakfast together; it will be well worth it.
Vegetables are not only loaded with vitamins and minerals, they are packed with fiber to aid in the digestive process, water to help flush out toxins from the body, and have even been found to protect against cancer (broccoli, Brussel sprouts, cabbage and cauliflower). Some even say that vegetables boost mood! Try swapping your afternoon snack of pretzels or a baked good for some sliced peppers, cucumbers and zucchini and see for yourself!
This one is simple; don’t drink your calories-it’s a waste! Consuming beverages that are loaded with sugar is directly correlated to increased incidence of Type II Diabetes, which often brings with it, a whole other slew of health issues. Give your body what it needs for proper hydration-good old H20. Get yourself a water bottle and keep it with you at all times as a reminder to drink up.
Proper nutrition doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Start with these three simple things…or even just one of them. Remember, baby steps are still moving you forward! Persistence pays off and over time, healthy habits lead to sustainable results.
